Northern Laos is an adventurer's delight. Quiet roads, diverse terrain, and friendly locals present a side of Laos not often seen by travellers. This 5 day biking tour allows you to discover the hidden splendor of Northern Laos on two wheels. With full vehicle support, you can opt to rest your legs and soak in the view from the comfort of a van!
Starting from Luang Prabang, you head north by bike to Oudomxay and on to Luang Nam Tha. The ride immerses you in the scenery of the area, but also provides a chance to view the diversity of the people. The Northern Region is inhabited by several groups of ethnic minorities such as Akha, Hmong and Mien.
Upon reaching Luang Nam Tha, relax by the banks of the river or stroll through town to explore its unique blend of architecture. The next morning, a spectacular ride through the Nam Ha Protected Area takes you to Muang Sing. The fresh air and dense forests are sure to revive those tired muscles!
Awake early to visit Muang Sing's local market. Join the vendors- most of whom come from the ethnic minority villages in the area- as they buy and sell fresh fruit, meats, and dry goods. The market is one of the best ways to experience the local lifestyle and culture.
The last day of cycling is alongside the Nam Ma River to Xieng Kok, a small town with wooden houses and bamboo shacks. On this peaceful stretch of road, the biggest hazards you are likely to see on the road are the cows and chickens who roam freely around the area!
What better way to finish up four days of hard cycling than with a boat ride down the Mekong. Travel past the riverside villages and fisherman before reaching the border town of Huay Xai and the end of your journey through magnificent Northern Laos.
The Kamu Lodge is an authentic eco-lodge on the banks of the Mekong. Just three hours upstream from Luang Prabang. Based on the philosophy that contact with nature is essential to relieving stress, the lodge is the perfect relaxing retreat.
The far northern Shan State of Myanmar sits in an area filled with a rolling landscape of green plateaus and jade lakes. The region is home to numerous ethnic groups who still practice a way of life that has been passed down for centuries. Come and meet them for yourself on a cycling and trekking adventure that will stay in your mind long after you return home. You'll trek over hills enjoying the crisp air, view spectacular lakes, and visit tribal villages to learn more about the local inhabitants.
