Laos boasts several protected conservation areas that are open to trekkers and support many species of unique and endangered fauna and flora. Experience active trekking holidays in Laos in the mountainous provinces of Luang Namtha, or hike along the rice fields to the remote ethnic villages of the Akha and Kamu. For shorter trips near Luang Prabang, the areas around the picturesque Kuang Sii falls make a great exploratory day trip and near Vientiane, several national parks and reservoirs can be explored.

Cycling is always a great way to see a foreign land, but Laos is particularly ideal for cycling as there is little road traffic and the terrain has enough variety to satisfy any biker! Cycle over isolated mountain passes which sweep down into jungle-covered river valleys in the north. Or enjoy the more sedate landscapes of the South and pedal your way in to neighboring Cambodia. In the cities of Vientiane and Luang Prabang, new battery-powered bikes are available for an eco-friendly tour option.

For an overnight stay with an adventurous twist, spend a night or more at one of Laos’ many eco-lodges. Options are available in the Northern, Central, and Southern regions as well as home stays for a truly authentic experience with the ethnic hill tribes.
